Emperor Valentinian I ruled from 364 to 375 AD. He is known for his military campaigns and his efforts to reform the Roman monetary system. Valentinian I successfully defended the Roman Empire against the invading tribes of Germanic and Sarmatian peoples. He established a new military base at Scotum in Britain and strengthened the frontier defenses on the Danube River. He also reformed the army by instituting strict discipline and increasing the pay of soldiers.

In addition to his military achievements, Valentinian I introduced several new denominations of coins, including the solidus, which became the standard gold coin of the Roman Empire for centuries. He took steps to stabilize the currency by issuing edicts to control inflation and ensure the purity of the coinage. Despite these efforts, the Roman economy remained in a state of decline, and the monetary system continued to experience significant instability in the years following Valentinian's death. Nevertheless, Valentinian I is remembered as a successful emperor who made important contributions to the Roman Empire's military and monetary systems.

For security purposes, we accept payment up to £2,500 by debit or credit card. Coins priced at £2,500 and above must be settled by bank transfer. On orders over £2,500, you checkout as normal and complete the transaction using the bank details provided in the order confirmation email.
